Workers' Compensation: $170,000 Recovery For Back Injury
Sandra sustained a back injury while working at a fast food restaurant in Concord, North Carolina. Sandra underwent two surgeries to address her injury.
Some clients unfortunately sustain injuries that require a fair amount of time and medical treatment to address. I work closely with our folks to guide them through this difficult process. I expect clients to be worried, frustrated, scared, etc. when they contact my office. I certainly would be. My satisfaction comes from easing some of these emotions while we address the respective issues.
In Sandra's case, the insurance adjuster offered $30,000 to resolve her claim approximately four months into my representation of our client. Frankly, this would have been a nice, easy fee. However, my client needed medical treatment (surgery) for her injury. She did not have health insurance. Furthermore, I noted we did not know how her medical care would progress (she subsequently needed a second surgery). I counseled Sandra to decline the offer. She received the appropriate medical care and weekly monetary benefits (TTD).
Once Sandra reached a point where we could properly negotiate the claim, we revisited negotiations. I then secured an additional 170,000 of compensation for my client. This resolution provided for Sandra's ongoing wage loss and partial future medical treatment.
