Workers' Compensation: $70,000 Recovery For Back Injury ($10,000 initial offer)

March 2013

Vanessa injured her back while working as a truck driver in Charlotte, North Carolina. While her injury was quite painful, the treating physicians determined her condition did not require surgery. Prior to seeking our representation, the insurance company only offered Vanessa $10,000 to settle her case. She wisely sought a consultation with me.

I worked to get Vanessa all the appropriate benefits under the North Carolina workers' compensation law (medical treatment, weekly checks, mileage reimbursement, etc.).  Workers' compensation companies aggressively defend these non-surgical back injury cases.  The Defendants routinely deny injured workers' proper medical and financial benefits.  The Defendants also frequently try to entice unrepresented workers into signing extremely low settlement offers (like they attempted with Vanessa).  Fortunately, Vanessa avoided this mistake.

After significant work, we obtained a $70,000 recovery for Vanessa.  We recovered $60,000 more than initially offered, after obtaining significant medical and weekly financial workers' compensation benefits for Vanessa.  It was very satisfying to help Vanessa, and see her get such a great result after the Defendants tried to take such advantage of her.
