Two horrific crashes have raised concerns of driver safety on I-85 South recently. The first crash occurred on July 13th near the Statesville Road exit after a tractor trailer rear ended a SUV in front of it. According to witnesses, the tractor trailer failed to slow down enough after traffic suddenly came to a stop in its lane. The accident resulted in a fire, which shut down I-85 South and the death of the driver of the SUV.
The second crash occurred in the same vicinity on July 18th on I-85 South near the Statesville Avenue exit. The crash occurred after a car cut in front a tractor trailer, causing the driver to slam on brakes. A chain reaction followed, causing rear collisions and four cars to be involved in the wreck. One of the vehicles involved was nearly flattened by the tractor trailer. Firefighters had to be free two of those involved from their car. Seven total people were injured in the wreck. Out of the seven, two sustained life-threatening injuries and another one sustained potentially life threatening injuries.
