Workers' Compensation: $49,000 Recovery For Hand Injuries (Medical Benefits Remain Open)

February 2017

Gloria suffered injuries to her hands while working as a teacher for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. The treating physician ultimately performed surgeries on both hands.

As an experienced workers' compensation attorney, I am very familiar with the challenges of addressing a workers' compensation claim for an employee of the State of North Carolina.  I explained these issues to Gloria and we prepared her case accordingly.

We ensured Gloria got all the necessary medical care recommended by her physicians.  I implemented the proper legal strategy to increase the compensation Gloria was owed for the impairment rating to her hands.  Gloria was able to return to her employment.  I carefully monitored her case to ensure she returned to work safely.

I also obtained an Order from the Industrial Commission requiring workers' compensation to pay for future medical care to Gloria's hands.  This step required significant effort, and the insurance company resisted our efforts.  However, we prevailed.  Gloria may not need such future treatment.  However, she has this coverage if needed.

This was a fantastic result.  Our client has recovered from surgery, returned to work, received significant monetary compensation, and she has peace of mind regarding any future medical care required.
